How to Connect Your SmartBarrel Device to WiFi
Overview
The SmartBarrel device supports an easy self-service method to connect to a WiFi network using a QR code. This feature allows you to generate a QR code from the dashboard and scan it with the device for quick setup.
Requirements
Before proceeding, ensure the following requirements are met:
- Feature Enablement: The WiFi QR code feature must be enabled at the company level by an administrator
- Device Firmware: Your SmartBarrel device must be running firmware version 3.1.1 or later.
- WiFi Network: The network must be password-secured using WPA PSK (works with standard WiFi and mobile hotspots).
Step 1: Generate the WiFi QR Code
- Log in to the Dashboard: Access your SmartBarrel dashboard.
- Navigate to Devices: Click on the Devices page from the left sidebar.
- Generate QR Code:
- Click the WiFi QR Code button in the upper right corner.
- Enter the WiFi SSID (network name) and password in the pop-up window.
- Click Generate QR Code.
- Save the QR Code:
- Click Download to save it and send it to your phone/tablet via email, text, or AirDrop.
- Take a picture of the QR code displayed on your computer screen.
- Print the QR code for easy scanning.
Step 2: Scan the QR Code with the Device
- Put the Device in QR Code Reading Mode:
- Enter Admin Code 0713 when the device is in normal idle mode (Enter Phone # screen).
- OR power cycle the device. If it fails to connect to the internet for 5 minutes, it will automatically enter QR reading mode for 2 minutes.
- Scan the QR Code:
- The device will display Scan WiFi Code and flash yellow lights.
- Hold the QR code up to the device’s camera.
- If using a phone screen, position it about 3 inches away, centered.
- Zoom in so the QR code fills the phone screen for better recognition.
- Successful Scan Confirmation:
- The device will flash green and show a success message.
- The device will attempt to connect to the WiFi network when it is in range.
Step 3: Verify WiFi Connection
- Use Admin Code 0704 to check the connection status.
- If connected, you will see a WiFi IP address (e.g.,
w: 192.168.1.1
).
- If connected, you will see a WiFi IP address (e.g.,
- Use Admin Code 0308 to test the speed of the wifi connection
Additional Notes
- To clear WiFi credentials, use Admin Code 0714.
- The device does not need to be in range when scanning the QR code; it will store the credentials and connect when available.
- Privacy & Security:
- The QR code is generated locally in your browser and never stored or transmitted.
- WiFi credentials are encrypted before encoding into the QR code.
- Only devices assigned to your company can decrypt and use the QR code.
