How do you set up the BuildOps Integration?
Learn how to connect SmartBarrel to BuildOps using OAuth 2.0.
BuildOps is the source of truth for your workers, projects, and cost codes. Once you connect the integration, SmartBarrel imports that data from BuildOps so your team can clock in on the right projects and cost codes without manual setup.
What you'll need
- A BuildOps Client ID and Client Secret (generated in BuildOps)
- SmartBarrel admin access with the Edit Project Settings permission for BuildOps
Connect BuildOps
- In SmartBarrel, go to Integrations > BuildOps.
- Enter your Client ID and Client Secret.
- Click Connect.
SmartBarrel securely exchanges your credentials for an access token and verifies the connection.
- If your BuildOps account has a single tenant, the connection completes and BuildOps shows as connected.
- If your BuildOps account has multiple tenants, you will be asked to pick your tenant from a list. Select your tenant and save.
Company settings
After connecting, open the BuildOps company settings to configure how syncing behaves:
- Auto Sync turns on automatic syncing on a schedule.
- Unlock Fields allows mapped fields to be edited in SmartBarrel (off by default).
- Reset to default on first sync or re-hire applies your default settings when a worker is first synced or re-hired.
- Search workers in Contractors and Do NOT update the contractor on sync control how worker records interact with contractors.
- Enable Mobile App sets the default mobile app access for synced workers.
What you can sync
Once connected you can import:
- Workers (see: Can you Sync Workers with BuildOps?)
- Projects (see: How do you Sync Projects with BuildOps?)
- Cost Codes (see: How do you Sync Cost Codes with BuildOps?)
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Connection fails after clicking Connect | Incorrect Client ID or Client Secret | Re-check the credentials from BuildOps and enter them again. |
| Asked to select a tenant | Your BuildOps account has more than one tenant | Choose the correct tenant from the list and save. |
| Cannot open BuildOps settings | Missing permission | Ask an admin to grant you the Edit Project Settings permission for BuildOps. |
FAQ
Do I need to enter credentials for each project? No. A single Client ID and Client Secret connect your whole company.
Is my time data sent back to BuildOps? Timecard sync to BuildOps is coming in a later release. For now the integration imports workers, projects, and cost codes from BuildOps into SmartBarrel.
