[Spectrum](https://ask.smartbarrel.io/integrations?hsLang=en#spectrum) # How do you Set Up the Spectrum Integration? ## Learn how to connect SmartBarrel to Trimble Spectrum and choose what to import Spectrum is the source of truth for your workers, jobs, and cost codes. Once the integration is connected, SmartBarrel imports that data from Spectrum so your crews can clock in on the right jobs and cost codes without anyone setting them up by hand. The Spectrum integration uses App XChange for the connection, so the majority of the setup is housed in that platform.  #### **What you'll need** 1. Spectrum Administrator with **Trimble Spectrum Support** access 2. SmartBarrel **Admin** access #### **Connect Spectrum** 1. In SmartBarrel, go to **Integrations**. 2. SmartBarrel will then send an invitation to you via App Xchange. The invitation will go to the email that you sign in with SmartBarrel for. The invitation should come to you promptly. If you do not see it, please reach out to support@smartbarrel.io or your account manager. 4. Once you have received and accepted the invitation, there are three steps on the Spectrum & App Xchange side that are detailed in the below documentation. https://help.trimble.com/doc/app-xchange/app-xchange/connectivity/app-connectors/trimble-spectrum-connector/connect-spectrum-with-app-xchange - **In Spectrum:** Prepare your Spectrum environment. For instructions, see either [Prepare a Spectrum Cloud Environment](https://help.trimble.com/doc/app-xchange/app-xchange/connectivity/app-connectors/trimble-spectrum-connector/connect-spectrum-with-app-xchange/prepare-a-spectrum-cloud-environment) or [Prepare a Spectrum On-Prem Environment](https://help.trimble.com/doc/app-xchange/app-xchange/connectivity/app-connectors/trimble-spectrum-connector/connect-spectrum-with-app-xchange/prepare-a-spectrum-on-prem-environment), depending on if you are connecting a cloud or on-prem instance. - **In Spectrum:** Configure your Spectrum Web Services. For instructions, see [Configure Spectrum Web Services](https://help.trimble.com/doc/app-xchange/app-xchange/connectivity/app-connectors/trimble-spectrum-connector/connect-spectrum-with-app-xchange/configure-spectrum-web-services). - **In App XChange:** Create a connection in App Xchange. For instructions, see either [Create a Spectrum Connection Using Enhanced Authentication](https://help.trimble.com/doc/app-xchange/app-xchange/connectivity/app-connectors/trimble-spectrum-connector/connect-spectrum-with-app-xchange/create-a-spectrum-connection-using-enhanced-authentication) or [Create a Spectrum Connection Using Basic Authentication](https://help.trimble.com/doc/app-xchange/app-xchange/connectivity/app-connectors/trimble-spectrum-connector/connect-spectrum-with-app-xchange/create-a-spectrum-connection-using-basic-authentication) depending on your instance's authentication method - Your Spectrum URL likely contains "-data" and do not add https:// in front of it - Your Data XChange User please ensure you add the company prefix. E.g. XCHANGESB would be \[CompanyCode\]XCHANGESB     To check if your Spectrum is using Basic or Enhanced Authentication, in Spectrum you can go to: System Administration \> Installation \> Data Exchange \> Then click "Settings". If the "Enable enhanced authentication for all Spectrum companies is set to 'true/checked', it is using Enhanced Authentication, otherwise it is using Basic Authentication. As per Trimble's documentation, it is recommended to always use the Deconstructed option for either Basic or Enhanced Authentication. You will need the following access for the Authorization ID: **Job Cost** - Get Job - Get Phase - Get Phase - Enhanced **Payroll** - Get Employee #### **Map your Spectrum companies** Nothing imports until you tell SmartBarrel which Spectrum company belongs to which contractor. Open **Integrations \> Spectrum \> Company Settings** and use the **Sync Companies** table. 1. Find your Spectrum company in the list. Companies appear as their code and name, for example **100 - Standard Company Setup**. 2. Choose the SmartBarrel **contractor** that company belongs to. 3. Turn on **Sync Projects**, **Sync Workers**, or both, depending on what you want to import. 4. A single SmartBarrel contractor can carry several Spectrum companies if you group them that way. ### **Company settings** The **General Settings** card controls how syncing behaves for your whole company. ![](https://ask.smartbarrel.io/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Aug-31-2026-06-41-00-5851-PM.png?width=670&height=299&name=image-png-Aug-31-2026-06-41-00-5851-PM.png) - **Cost Types:** which Spectrum cost types to import as cost codes. Defaults to **L** for Labor. Leaving it empty imports every cost type. - **Autosync:** keeps workers up to date automatically on a schedule. - **Unlock Fields:** allows fields that come from Spectrum to be edited on the worker profile. Off by default so Spectrum stays the source of truth. Not available while Autosync is on. - **Import Position:** creates SmartBarrel Positions from the Spectrum Trade field and assigns them to workers. - **Allow Position reset:** clears a worker's Position when their Spectrum Trade is empty. Only available when Import Position is on. - **Reset to default on first sync or re-hire:** applies your default worker settings the first time a worker is linked, or when they are re-hired. - **Search workers in Contractors** and **Do NOT update the contractor on sync:** control how synced workers are matched against your existing contractors, and whether a sync may move a worker between them. - **Enable Mobile App:** the default mobile app access given to workers created by the sync. - **Start Work Week Day:** the first day of your work week. ### **What you can sync** Once you are connected and your companies are mapped, you can import: - **Workers** (see: Can you Sync Workers with Spectrum?) - **Jobs as projects** (see: How do you Sync Projects with Spectrum?) - **Cost codes** (see: How do you Sync Cost Codes with Spectrum?) - **Additional jobs on one project** (see: How do you Link Additional Projects with Spectrum?) ### **Troubleshooting** | Problem | Cause | Fix | | --- | --- | --- | | Spectrum still shows as not connected | No data has arrived from Spectrum yet | The connection completes when the first data is delivered.
