How do you Sync Cost Codes with BuildOps?

Learn how to import cost codes from BuildOps into SmartBarrel.

The Cost Code Sync imports a project's cost codes from BuildOps into SmartBarrel so your crews can track time against them.

Before you start

  • The project must be imported first (see: How do you Sync Projects with BuildOps?).
  • You need the Sync Cost Codes permission for BuildOps.

Sync cost codes

  1. Open the project and go to its BuildOps settings or timesheet view.
  2. Click Sync Cost Codes.

The imported cost codes appear in the project's Cost Codes list.

To keep them current automatically, enable Auto Sync Cost Codes in the project settings.

How cost codes appear

BuildOps organizes cost codes under phases and departments, and it can reuse the same cost code name in more than one place. To keep every code unique and clear, SmartBarrel names each one using its phase, department, and cost code name, for example:

Standard Side.Services - Horn Lake - Service Projects.01-100

The cost code's description is used as its name where available.

Import only budgeted cost codes

Use the Use Budgeted Cost Codes setting to control how many codes come in:

  • On: import only cost codes that have a labor budget.
  • Off: import every cost code for the project.

FAQ

My cost codes were renamed after a recent update. Why? Cost codes now include their phase and department in the name so they are always unique. Existing codes are refreshed to the new format on the next Cost Code Sync. This is expected.

Can cost codes sync on their own? Yes. Turn on Auto Sync Cost Codes in the project's BuildOps settings.

Where do I see the results? Open Integrations > BuildOps > Logs. Cost Code Sync entries appear there, and you can download the full log.
