How does mobile app login work for workers with profiles in multiple companies?

This article explains what workers see at login when their phone number is registered with more than one SmartBarrel company.

Things to consider:

  • The company selector only appears for workers whose phone number is registered with more than one SmartBarrel company. Workers with profiles in only one company go directly to the projects list.

  • Workers must be on SmartBarrel mobile app version 6.9 or higher to see the company selector. Workers on older versions will be routed to the company where they most recently had activity. To get the full experience, workers should update the app from the App Store or Google Play.

  • The selected company is locked in for the duration of the session. To switch to a different company, log out and sign back in.

  • Workers logging in with an authorization code generated from the dashboard are routed automatically to that company. No company selector is shown in this case.

  • Companies where the worker is inactive or the worker's mobile app access is disabled, will not appear in the selector.

Steps to sign in to a specific company

  1. Open the SmartBarrel app on your phone. Enter your phone number and tap "Login."

  2. You will receive a verification code by text message. Enter the code in the app.

  3. If your phone number is registered with more than one company, the "Your Company" screen appears. Each row shows the main company name with the your registered contractor name underneath. Tap to select the company you want to work in for this session.

  4. You will be taken to the projects list for the selected company. You are now ready to punch in.

If your phone number is only active with one company, you will skip Step 3 and go directly to your projects list.

How do I switch to a different company?

The company you selected at sign-in is locked in for the session. To work in a different company on the same phone:

  1. Open the SmartBarrel app and tap the worker icon in the bottom row
  2. Tap "Log out" and confirm.
  3. Sign in again with your phone number and select the different company from the "Your Company" screen.

What if I don't see a company I expect to see?

If a company you expect to access is missing from the "Your Company" selector, one of the following may be the case:

  • Your mobile app access in that company may have been disabled by an admin. Contact an admin at that company to confirm and re-enable.

  • You may not have an active worker profile in that company. Contact an admin at that company to review your worker profile.

  • Your app version may be below 6.9. Update the SmartBarrel app from the App Store or Google Play, then sign in again. You should see the full list once your app is on the latest version.

Why do I have profiles in multiple companies?

You're currently or previously employed by more than one SmartBarrel customer. Each customer maintains its own worker records, and your phone number now works across all of them under one login. Each company keeps its own projects, hours, and pay data, fully separate from any other company.

What if I'm punching in on a SmartBarrel TimeClock?

Devices on a project always punch you into that project's company. There is no company selector on devices, because the device is already tied to the project's company. Your profiles in other companies are not affected by punches on that device.
