[Worker Profile Management](https://ask.smartbarrel.io/smartbarrel-dashboard?hsLang=en#worker-profile-management) # How do I edit a user profile? ## This article explains how to update and edit a user profile from the Worker's list. ### **Before you start:** - Only users with the appropriate permissions can update other users's profiles. - Permission changes take effect the next time the user logs in or refreshes the page. - If a field shows a lock icon, it means the profile is managed by an integration. To make changes to that field, you'll need to update that information in the integration system first. ### **Steps to edit a user profile** Step 1. Edit fields as needed (phone number, email address, projects, or permissions) and click the "**Save**" button to apply changes. ![](https://ask.smartbarrel.io/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Nov-02-2024-10-36-49-4476-PM.png?width=670&height=301&name=image-png-Nov-02-2024-10-36-49-4476-PM.png) If a user needs dashboard access, make sure the email field is filled in. SmartBarrel uses that email for the welcome email and password resets. ### **Why email and phone fields are locked** A lock icon next to a field means the profile is integrated. Its data comes from a connected system, such as your payroll, ERP or project management software, and that system is the source of truth. SmartBarrel locks these fields so a manual edit isn't overwritten at the next sync, and so both systems keep matching records. Common integrations include Procore, CMiC, Viewpoint Vista, Plexxis, Foundation, BuildOps, Spectrum, and custom API connections. ![](https://ask.smartbarrel.io/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jan-17-2025-06-02-43-1827-PM.png?width=670&height=306&name=image-png-Jan-17-2025-06-02-43-1827-PM.png) ### **How to update or unlock a locked field** To change a locked email or phone number, update it in the connected system, not in SmartBarrel. The new value flows into SmartBarrel at the next sync. 1. Identify which integration manages the profile (Procore, CMiC, Vista) 2. Log in to that system and update the employee's email address or phone number. 3. Wait for the next sync, then refresh the worker's profile in SmartBarrel to confirm the change. Video:   ### **Troubleshooting and FAQ** - **I can't find the Save button or can't edit any fields.** Your account may not have permission to edit other users. Ask your company Admin to update your role. - **I updated the field in my integration, but SmartBarrel still shows the old value.**   Changes appear after the next sync. If the old value remains after a day, contact Support. - **The lock icon only appears on some fields.**                                       Only fields managed by the integration are locked. You can still edit unlocked fields, such as project assignments, directly in SmartBarrel. - **A user didn't receive their welcome email after I added their email.**  Ask them to check spam or junk folders.
