The rounding rule feature in the project settings is a simple and efficient tool that automatically rounds timesheet entries
Things to consider before applying rules:
Rounding Rules:
- Enabling timesheet rounding rules will impact all workers and subcontractors associated with the project
- Rounding rules are aligned with the project address's time zone
- They must be set between 12 am and 11:59 pm
- The default setting for rounding rules is "none," and it can be adjusted to round times to the nearest 15 (7-min rule) or 30 minutes (15-min rule)
- Option to customize, add, or modify them as needed
- The new rules will immediately affect future punches, but will not impact previous punches
Break Time rules:
- Enabling break time rules will impact all workers and subcontractors associated with the project
- The default setting is "none."
- Option to customize break time rules as needed.
- The duration of the break time is shown in minutes.
- The new rules will immediately affect future punches, but will not impact previous punches
Configuration
Both rounding rule and break time rule functionalities are enabled and configured in the Project Settings
Step 1. Go to your project > click on the three-bar icon in the upper right corner > click "Project Settings"
Step 2. Set up
Set up for Default Rounding Rules
The default rule will always be "none." It can be adjusted to the nearest 7 or 15 min
a) Click on 7 min or 15 min to set any of these default rules that will apply at any hour and any punch.
- The 7 min rule breaks the 15 minutes into two 7.5 minutes sections.
- If a punch comes between X:00 and X:7.5 it rounds down to X:00.
- If the punch falls between X:7.5 and X:15, it rounds up to X:15 - The 15 min rule rounds to the nearest half hour, dividing it into two 15 min increments.
- If the punch falls between X:00 and X:15, it rounds down to 00
- If the punch is between X:15 and X:30 it rounds up to the X:30
Set up Custom Rounding Rules
- Punch type: Select if the rule should apply to punch-ins, punch-outs, or both
- From / To: Set the time range for the rule to apply
- Change to: The punch in/out time will be rounded to this time. Click "save"
*Add additional custom rules to cover all shift transitions on the project
Example: The work shift begins at 6 am, some workers may arrive early and punch in. This rule will round punch in time to the shift start time. So, any Punch In between 5:00 am and 6:00 am will automatically round to 6:00 am. This will override the default rounding rule (if existent) during this time period.
Set up Break Time Rules
- From / To: Set the range of hours worked for the rule to apply. The hours between the punch-in and punch-out of the shift must fall within the range for the break to be deducted.
- Break time: It indicates the amount of minutes deducted from the shift for break time. Click "save"
*Add as many break rules as needed.
